1. Start your letter or email with a pertinent question to get people into it. Throughout the text, work in questions that stimulate interest in answers to follow.

2. Begin with your strongest benefit.

3. Avoid vague generalities. Be specific.

4. Quickly identify your text with the needs and desires of the reader.

5. Stick to buying points, concerning the reader, not your selling points. Sell benefits, results and solutions.

6. Use benefits with the greatest appeal. Don't clutter up your letter with minor claims

7. Touch people on points of common human contact. Make them say, "Yes, that is just like me." 

8. Use vivid portrayals of dramatic situations, facts and word pictures to inspire the reader to want, as soon as possible, what the product will do for - and get for him or her. 

9. Try to make it entertaining to read. 

10. Use short, simple sentence construction - crystal clear in meaning. 

11. Use vivid present tense and active verbs. 

12. Avoid too many adjectives, adverbs and pronouns. 

13. Use easy-to-understand vocabulary - nothing too technical. 

14. Lead carefully from one point of interest to the next - link them clearly.
